ABOUT US

From the Acting Principal-Annie Sims

Waihi Central School is small by number but by no means small in character.  We see ourselves as a true New Zealand school, with an incredible Board of Trustees, amazing teachers & a very strong support team, we have our tamariki (& their whānau) at the center of absolutely everything we do.

Your child can be educated in English Medium or Māori Medium.   Balanced learning is a focus for us. We are a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school and we have introduced "Structured Literacy" as our main teaching approach.

We are part of the Healthy Lunches in Schools Program and provide free lunches to every student.  We also have Breakfast Club and Fruit in Schools... and we are a Duffy Books in Homes school.  On top of all this, we are also active in the Waihi Kāhui Ako collaborating with other local schools.  We have a huge pool (12mx25m), ngāhere (bush area), three playgrounds, vegetable gardens,  and of course a lovely library.  We are also an Enviro School and a Sunsmart School.

Come and visit us and we can show you around and answer any questions you may have.
