last day, term 2 2018
R7 really enjoyed hosting assembly on the last day of term. They had terrific support from tuakana who helped our teina read out their scripts. It was a great opportunity for R7 to share their wharenui constructions and their matariki artwork. Thank you to Te Amorangi's mum and dad who bought in Kai for R7 to share - our students loved it!
visit from beach kids waihi
It was great to see our friends from Beach Kids Waihi! We loved hosting you in our classroom, chasing all our bubbles down the hill and exploring on the playground. We look forward to visiting you next term.
hedgehog is hungry
After reading 'Hedgehog is Hungry' by Beverley Randell, R7 students thought it would be great to create their own spiky hedgehogs. Some hedgehogs later 'morphed' into sea creatures.
play based learning
During Play Based Learning, R6 and R7 learn fantastic skills during their own initiated games. They learn life long skills such as: working alongside one other; collaborating on tasks; managing oneself when things don't go their way; resilience; sharing; and problem solving, to name but a few. Further during these tasks, students are developing their fine and gross motor skills.
'It was fantastic to see students from R7 at our disco having lots fun and dancing hard! Congratulations to CJ for winning the boy's 'dance off' and to Akali and Rikki for winning 'best-dressed' boy and 'best-dressed' girl!
tiger slug visits r7
R7 had a friendly, slimy visitor - a Tiger slug. It slithered under the table and the students were keen to investigate it further, so hoped underneath for a closer look. Later the girls crept along the carpet, mimicking the slugs movement.
waihi central triathlon
Students from R7 showed determination and resilience during their first triathlon. All students swam, peddled and ran their hearts out. It was amazing to see these 5 year olds participate in this big event with such a great attitude. Tino pai!
It's been a busy time for our students as they rescue 'wildlife' trapped in our classroom. The smiles on their faces show just how much our children love interacting with, and helping insects and birdlife!
Community kindy visit
We had such fun when the tamariki from Community Kindy visited! R7 students did a great job of hosting our visitors and everyone loved finding sea treasures in our icebergs. We can't wait to go and visit them next term.
WE'RE ALL GOING ON A CICADA HUNT!
We're all going on a cicada hunt! We're not scared! Well maybe just a little. In the end though, our students loved collecting cicada shells that were hiding amongst our trees in the gully and comparing how many they found with others.
The students of our room loved swimming during Term 1 and it was fantastic to see their skills and confidence grow over the course of a few weeks.
