Welcome
Kia ora koutou, welcome to Room 3's Class Page for 2019. We are excited to share our work and post pictures of our learning experiences. You will also find newsletters and updates about up and coming events. We look forward to an amazing year!
Oranga Time
On Monday mornings we start our week with Oranga Time. It is a chance to settle in to school, work on positive relationships with our peers from our class and well as from other classes in our syndicate. There are a range of awesome things to do such as being in a quiet space playing cards or board games, playing with play dough, or colouring. There are outdoor games set up if you are feeling active and other fun things like spending time in the music room or making enormous bubbles. This sets us up for a great week of learning and gives us a chance to touch base with our teachers.
Mother's Day
We celebrated Mother's Day in style on Friday. We invited our special mums, nans and aunties into our kura, had a special assembly and then a shared morning tea. We wrote poems and made beautiful flowers to give to our mums.
Student Leaders
Congratulations to our Year 6 Student Leadership Team for 2019! We are very proud of you and we know you will continue to be amazing role models in our kura!
Our new Karakia
Welcome to Term 2
We hope you have had a great term break. We have started the term with circuit training for our syndicate fitness and we are building towards our school cross country in Week 3.
Camp 2019
What a fantastic time we had at Aongatete Lodge for our Year 5 and 6 Camp. It was a great chance to challenge ourselves and try new things. What an amazing group of tamariki to take away on camp!
Wonder Portraits
Our portraits are based on the awesome book we are reading 'Wonder'. It is about a boy with a rare genetic condition and how he faces his challenges. We are learning that it's what's on the inside that counts and our portraits show what is special about us 😊
Problem Solving
We are learning to work as part of a group by taking on a role and supporting our team members to complete a common task.
Wonder
Our Chapter Chat book for Term One is Wonder by R. J. Palacio.
"August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school - until now. He's about to start 5th grade at Beecher Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face."

chapter chat
This year we will be taking part in Chapter Chat. Chapter Chat is a Twitter Book Chat for New Zealand kids. The twitter chat is based around a chapter book which is read aloud in class. The twitter chat is on every Friday for five weeks, from 10am-10:45am, and is based around 10 questions which are generated from the story. There are also weekly tasks posted for classes to complete and share during the chat. To date there are over 200 year 5 and 6 classes from around New Zealand participating in Term 1's Chapter Chat! It is exciting to be involved in a literacy rich programme that makes connections with other schools around New Zealand. Watch this space for examples of our work.
Swimming Sports
Thanks to our whanau and friends for joining us at our Swimming Sports. We had a great day showcasing our swimming skills. Congratulations to those moving on to the Cluster Swimming Sports!
