tākaro mā te ako - play based learning

A new concept to our kura 'Play Based Learning' which has been implemented from 2018 to the present day in the Junior classes.
The idea of learning through play where tamariki lead their learning through korero, talking about the processes in their creations, writing about these activities to share with the class.

Ngā wāriutanga ō te kura
Protect - Tiakina
respect - whakaute
Integrity - tapatahi
dare - maia
excellence - hiranga

School values incorporated into everyday learning in the classroom and out in the playground.  Tamariki reflect on their actions in their learning and the implications of their actions on those around them.

whakatangitangi - music

Tamariki are encouraged to participate in Kapahaka to learn waiata, discipline and work together for a common theme.  Learning to play a range of instruments available in the kura in the music room, tamariki get to showcase skills that can often be un-noticed.

Tena tātou katoa,

Band saw or Circular Saw
I am looking for a parent who has a band saw or a circular saw to cut some small rings for me to use in the classroom. If you have access to this could you please contact me. We are looking at trying to reuse and recycle items that can be used in the classroom as loose-parts for tamariki for Play Based Learning.

Whānau BBQ and swim
Thursday 28th February 4.30pm-6pm - Whānau Sausage sizzle and swim to meet and greet teachers and other whānau members in our school community.  If you can help out on the BBQ during this time that would be appreciated, you will not be committed to this job for the duration of the evening, just a fill in to give teachers the opportunity to meet and greet our school wide whānau.

Netball Term 2

Tena tātou katoa,

Whānau BBQ and swim
Thank you to whānau who attended the whānau BBQ and swim held last Thursday.  There was a great turn out of whānau and it was awesome to catch up with you all.  Please feel free to contact me via email/phone if you have anything you would like to discuss.

Junior Swimming Display - Thursday 6th March 1pm.
Whānau and friends are invited to cheer on tamariki as they show off what they have been learning during class swimming lessons.  I am also looking for a parent to help on the day to hand out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place rods and this time if you could contact me asap.  I do understand that parents would love to get close up photos of their children swimming, however to better manage tamariki during this time I would ask that you take pictures outside the pool gate.
I have a student who will take photos throughout the afternoon of all tamariki involved.

Takaro mā te ako - Play Based Learning
Last week Awatea teina had the opportunity to join the Junior school in ‘Play Based learning’ in the mornings.  It has given tamariki the opportunity to develop relationships with children outside of their classroom, they have been learning about respecting others and their property.  I would like to see more of this happen in the future to strengthen the ties within our kura with Rumaki and mainstream.

Pepeha.
Please fill in as much as you can of your child’s pepeha.  Tamariki will be presenting their pepeha on a daily basis throughout the rest of the term.
